We are three students currently undertaking an MA in Librarianship at the University of Sheffield. Part of the degree involves creating a Web site on any topic of our choice. We felt that the site should meet a genuine information need, and this was what we came up with.
Three years ago Myke Baigent was just one of many model engineers to have his steam locomotives stolen. In one malicious act many years of hard work and devotion to these locos had been lost. Despite the fact that a vast amount of time and money was spent in an attempt to retrieve them, it soon became apparent that no formal network existed to coordinate such information. Eventually Myke Baigent's engines were recovered (to read more about this story click here).
Since then, others have contacted Mr Baigent with details of their own stolen locos, hoping to find help and advice. This Web site was established to create a formal network in order to meet these information needs, and also to provide links to related sites.
This site contains photographs and descriptions of missing model locomotives and contact points, should you have any relevant information.
For those who wish to advertise their own missing models please click here
